From coastal bush, kauri forest, wetlands, lakes to parkland, the headland is a haven for native wildlife. Around 80 species of marine and terrestrial birds live or visit on a regular basis. Kākā visit to forage in winter. Mature kauri, and kanuka support a diverse range of endemic plant species. The streams are home to at risk long fin eels and kōkopu.
Could a predator fence work on the headland? In the future might there be an opportunity for the current defence force land to be incorporated into a greater headland park?
